Ankle Tendonitis

Ankle tendonitis refers to inflammation of one or more tendons at the ankle joint.

Examples include inflammation to the peroneal tendons (outer part of ankle), posterior tibial tendon (inner part of ankle), and achilles tendon (back of ankle). Tendonitis may occur due to injury or repetitive use. Symptoms include pain and possibly swelling along the affected tendon. This is commonly treated without surgery involving rest, icing, anti-inflammatories or pain medication, elevation of the leg, and physiotherapy. If conservative treatment fails, surgery may be considered by removing part of the damaged tissues, followed by reconstruction or repair of the involved tendon.
